Is there still such thing as long-distance relationships?
Remember
the times long distance romances involved hand-written, beautify crafted
letters and pigeons?
Yeah, me
neither.
Travelling
around Europe this summer I had no trouble contacting anyone I wished to
contact and if ever felt lonely in those empty Italian hotel rooms I’d just
call them via messenger. Facebook Messenger.
We live in
a glorious of an constant internet connection and since we are able to have
Skype-drinking, Skype-sex and even Skype-mornings after it makes me wonder:
Is there
still such thing as long-distance relationships?
Thanks to
the tools free to use nowadays you and your partner, no mater the country of permanent
residence, connected whenever you wish. You may find yourselves spending more
time together than couples physically living in the same cities.
Being able
to pet, kiss and caress each other’s minds. Only the minds. There’s a huge
possibility of reaching the level of understanding and knowing the other being
that people who have a chance to screw never care enough to reach.
Here’s
where my hypothesis gets screwed. (At least my hypothesis.)
No matter
how close the minds can get, you still need a union of the bodies to sustain a
relationship. And be truely happy in it.
Neglecting
the regular sex factor was a trap I came in willingly time and time again.
Because it’s so tempting to keep in touch with your ex and see him grow into a
better, wiser person than the one you broke up with. And so easy to desperately
want to get back together no matter you’re living English Channel and couple of
countries apart.
Or to foolishly keep a toxic summer romance alive and become a
zombie heartcuffed to your computer.
No matter
how real the presence of the loved one next to you or how real that intimacy feels,
it’s still virtual.
After all Spike
Jonze’s “Her” is a fabulous movie, but who’d like to lead that life if there
are plenty of people you could not only talk to, but also perform some dececent analouge love making with?
