Pain and pleasure

I’ve just finished “Junky” by William S. Burroughs and one quote: “Possibly all pleasure is basically relief from a condition of need, tension.”
He referred to opium addicts, who don’t really feel the kick anymore, just the freedom from junk sickness. But it is so true in other aspects of life as well.
Getting wasted – forgetting about one’s burning ambition and the fact that nothing is being done to fulfil it.
Orgasm – the end of tension between lovers and the perfect moment of not existing at all.
And finally nirvana – freedom from all needs and temptation available in this world.

Sometimes I wish I had no need of world domination inside me. I would live happily ever after in my home town, got married at some point and had some babies. And without great goals I would be simply constantly content.
But I like my ups and downs, even if they mean not getting up and hiding from the world for a day or two. Because they also can be a drinking lunchtime in a nice place, with an interesting person and exchanging ideas to be brought to life.
It’s a bit like tender lovemaking with a long term partner in opposition to passionate, naughty sex with some spanking involved.
